"Rosa Parks, a black seamstress whose refusal to relinquish her seat to a white man on a city bus in Montgomery, Ala., almost 50 years ago grew into a mythic event that helped touch off the civil rights movement of the 1950's and 1960's, died yesterday at her home in Detroit. She was 92 years old."

ELED 420 Science in the Elementary and Middle School

Elizabeth Rountree and Amanda Pearson from Oklahoma Baptist University helped Grove 4th graders explore macroinvertibrates in the wetland area. The students took water samples and examined and identified the various species.

Anne Malthaner and Jackie Palmer taught the Water Cycle. Grove students learned about water absorbsion, evaporation and that plants and clouds complete the water cycle.

Emily Elmen and Rachel Schooler took Grove students on a nature hike and searched for a variet of leaves. The children identified and labeled the leaves.

Kristen Gaddie and Shannon Martin, students at Oklahoma Baptist University, taught Grove 4th grader how to use a compass. Kristen and Shannon designed their lesson to teach students to find predetermined locations.

Shawnee Conservation District

The Conservation Commission’s Conservation Education Program has been in existence since 1975. The main purpose of the Education Program is to educate Oklahomans of all ages about natural resources and the environment with an emphasis on soil and water.

Textbook Adoption 2006

Every six years the state adopts new textbooks for each subject. This coming year, 2006, will be the year that the state adopts new Science and Computer Education textbooks. Textbook publishers nation wide have sent their materials to selected science teachers across the Oklahoma for them to review and hopefully recommend for adoption.
